Sleep Issues

Providers

Problems that interfere with sleep are very common. Approximately one-third of the adult population may complain of insomnia, or trouble sleeping, within a given year. In addition to insomnia, other common sleep problems include excessive daytime sleepiness, and sleep patterns that are out of sync with social or occupational demands. Each consultation begins with a thorough evaluation because research suggests that the best long-term results come from treating those specific factors underlying the sleep disturbance. A treatment plan is then formulated based on each individual’s unique situation. Sometimes the treatment focuses on adjusting the personal patterns of behavior that can cause or contribute to a sleep difficulty. In many cases anxiety, stress and depression — which can often play a part in the sleep problem — will be targeted in the treatment plan as well.
